I had a dream. To create a school that truly enhances and elevates the learning process, gaining experience and mainly to attain knowledge. This was my childhood dream, which became my ultimate life goal.

My experience in education started after I graduated from University Malaya in 1997 with a Bachelor of Social Science. I taught at a national school from 1997-1999 and discovered the school was using teaching methods from the 1960s! Nagging, scolding, caning, physical punishment, mental torture and even worse, brain numbing memorizing without understanding killed the learners confident and passion.

I knew there had to be a better way. Learning through fun and experience. Learning happily and independently. Most importantly, learning in a respectful and safe environment.

I decided that changing the system of teaching was the key for effective learning . So I established my first tuition centre (Ikhtiar Maju Jaya Tuition Centre) in 2001.

I applied lively learning methods in my lessons. Educators interact casually with students and are encouraged to ask questions, have friendly conversations and apply all kinds of kind and fun learning methods.

I created a whole new learning process and the outcome was astonishing! Students loved it and made remarkable progress. Even parents joined in! After establishing 7 tuition centres in my hometown, Segamat ventured into pre-school education and I established TTBS Nursery and Alpha Ocean Kindergarten in 2017 to apply fun learning for young children.

After 13 years of hard work and determination, the Ministry of Education granted the licenses to establish Unico International School in 2020. The school has been established by passionate educators.

I firmly believe education is not limited to school buildings and facilities only. True education is not limited between students and teachers in school. Education starts with trust and meaningful interaction amongst parents and school. As parents’ expectations and attitude affect their child’s academic progress and mental health. Creating the perfect pathway to a robust education system in UNICO will take time, effort and sweat.
